Expensive replacement cartridge
Although the Fax machine only costs $64.75, a 350 page replacement cartridge ( HP 701) costs $30. Further it is not commonly available.

Sharing a phone line in auto mode does not work
While the HP 640 fax works on a dedicated phone line( and yes, it works on a Comcast line), the machine does not work on a shared line in auto mode.
